Like neighbouring township of Drouin, Warragul was established after the railway line came through the area in 1878. The tramways transported the timber harvest to support a thriving timber industry.
Previously the main activity in the area was clearing the land, later it changed to dairy farming. The convenient location in between Melbourne and Sale made it a go to pit stop for tourists, with refreshment rooms and accommodation options available. Warragul previously held the title of the fifth most liveable regional area in Australia in 2014 by real estate valuation company RP Data, based on affordable home prices, block sizes and proximity to schools.
Stroll along Queen Street and take in the 19th century architecture including the ornate facades and archways of the buildings. See the heritage-listed Warragul Station and Shire Hall, built in 1893, which houses the historical society.
Warragul is situated roughly 100km South East of Melbourne in the West Gippsland region of Victoria, with sought-after services including healthcare facilities, good schools and public transport options. There are eleven major housing estates offering thousands of new lots in master planned developments, offering much larger lots at prices far lower than metro competitors. Warragul is expected to surge from roughly 49,000 in 2016 to more than 85,500 by 2041. That’s more than 100 people a month moving to the Shire for 25 years. This has been aided by 2500 hectares of land released for new housing in both Warragul and Drouin. Making Warragul a popular destination for young families who enjoy the community feel, great parks and excellent facilities.
